What is Saltoun Community Association SCIO?

Saltoun Community Association is now a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) and came into existence in September 2021.  It replaced the former SCA charity which dated back to the 1950s but which had an out-of-date ownership and governance structure.  All the property and financial assets of the former SCA charity were transferred to the SCIO during 2022.  The former SCA was removed from the Scottish Charity Register in December 2022.

What does SCA SCIO do?

Our main purpose is to provide recreational facilities or to organise activities in the Saltoun Parish area e.g. classes and social events, for the local community’s benefit. Our role also involves ownership, operation and management of the village hall (Fletcher Hall) in East Saltoun, as well as the defibrillator located in the former telephone kiosk in the village.

How is the charity managed?

The SCIO organisation is two-tiered, comprising:

  • – MEMBERS, who have the right to attend meetings and to annually elect trustees from the membership to serve on the committee (board); and
  • – TRUSTEES (Board) who manage the activities, finances and property on behalf of members.

The current Charity Trustees (out of a maximum of 12 places) are:

Chairperson               office holder to be confirmed

Treasurer                   Brian Beattie

Minutes Secretary     Clare Galloway

Jill Jeans

 Rhona Wilson

 Elaine Barrett

Mike Jeans

Rachel Thomson

David Stevenson

Further details of Members’ and Trustees’ roles can be found in the charity’s Constitution

Anyone who lives or works in Saltoun Parish can become a member.  There is no membership fee, you can hire the facilities at a discounted rate, and there is no commitment to getting involved in things unless you would like to help.  You will be kept informed about local events and activities, and will have a say in decisions about the future of the village hall.  You will only be able to participate (and vote) in meetings, and elect the trustees, if you are a registered member:
